This website origionally started because I was participating in a program called CREST run by CSIRO which I'm doing at school.  I've already done the Green and Orange award so I'm doing the Blue Award.

Originally I attempted to try and trap dung beetles at school  (maybe it was to cold for them, or maybe they were just hiding from me.) I started off with a kit, from the Australian Museum, including test-tubes, a poster about insect anatomy and an instruction booklet.

I decided to try trapping the beetles for the first week, with no bait. Success, (well sort of) I trapped a large, female, Sydney Funnel Web Spider. The funnel web stayed at the science department at school for a few days where it was put through a photography session (by me.) The only problem was that I didn't know that you had to be at least a metre away for the camera I was using to be in focus.

The traps stayed there for one more week and then I put some sausage into them for bait. No luck, the weather bureau didn't say the was going to be lots and lots of rain, which filled the traps with water and turned the sausage mouldy, which reminded me of the glorious mouldy sandwiches I made for the green level of CREST.

In the future I hope to have information for hundreds of amazing animals from all around the world. Be sure to check out The Crocodile Hunter Fansite.
